Join the Almost Famous Film Festival on December 9 for the second
edition of a 4-part series of workshops geared towards the
independent filmmaker.
The workshop will kick-off with an informative lecture on "How to
Attract Stars to your Project," "The Myths of Casting," and "The Do's
and Don't of Casting," led by Arizona's top casting director, Faith
Hibbs-Clark (http://www.faithhibbsclark.com).
We all have great ideas for our next short film or even blockbuster
feature ... but sometimes the most difficult part of producing your
film comes down to finding talented actors and actresses and crew
members who will help put your film over the top! Faith will share
her many years of experience in casting films and productions in both
Arizona and LA. You won't want to miss this opportunity!
The second part of the workshop will be led by A3F filmmakers as they
come together to discuss their own strategies, tips and trade secrets
when it comes to making their films! This is a great opportunity to
pick the brains of your fellow filmmakers and also offer your own
techniques and methods to the independent filmmaking community.
For more information or to register for the workshop visit http://
theA3F.net or please RSVP jae at ballboy.net with how many people in
your group will be attending? You can also sign-up for the 2007 A3F
48 Hour Short Film Challenge at the workshop! If you do, you will be
able to select a digital video filmmaking book from O'Reilly Media
for free!
The four books that http://digitalmedia.oreilly.com/ is donating are:
(limit one book to each registered team leader, while supplies last).

Another reminder will be sent out after the holiday weekend. And
thanks to the 25 enthusiastic people who attended the Lighting and
Sound workshop this past weekend. Steven Bradford, from Collins
College, led an interesting and informative presentation on helping
filmmakers improve their lighting and sound.
Three main tips that we all walked away with:
1) For films and the more dramatic effect, light from the side, nor
from the front
2) A very usable and cool soft light kit can be made for less than
$15 from Home Depot
3) Record a minute of "tone" that you can loop for your audio track
when you are filming in a room or even outdoors to make sure you
won't have jumps in your audio levels
Good stuff!
Sincerely, Jae
